How does a job posted (4-page custom script) hit my in box but already has 107 responses only 40 mins later?

As far as I can tell,  a job gets a response within 60 seconds. After 30 minutes it could have well over 100 responses. In this case, I doubt that all 107 auditions were of the complete 4 pages. Many were probably a paragraph or two. And I'm sure many submitted a non custom demo.  You see the complaint from job posters, "no non custom demos will be considered" quite a bit. I'm guessing a lot of people sit at their computer all day and fire off non custom demos to every single job that gets posted.

I appreciate your prompt response (I've read many of your helpful answers). Thanks for confirming my suspicions about non-custom submissions, partial reads, and "throw-it-on-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks" approach. I can't imagine charging after every invite--WHO can be right for EVERY job??  I'm curious, though: how do you determine that a job gets a response within 60 secs?
