How do I create an mp3 through Audacity of good quality? When I "Preview" my audition, it sounds terrible!

I record with a C-1U USB mic and Audacity on a Mac. When I preview my auditions, the sound quality is terrible. Help!

Hello Allyson...

Please elaborate on what you mean by terrible... i.e.  too sibilant... muddy, clicks. pops, distortion etc etc.

That would help us suggest possible remedies.
