I am connected to the Internet via a cable modem. Does this do away with the need for an ISDN connection?

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a special high-quality lines that allow voice recording to be digitally transmitted from one recording facility to another.

A Phone Patch is considerably cheaper than an ISDN line and clients who want to be able to provide real-time direction may request this. The patch simply feeds your live mic voice and any recorded audio you want through an interface (the patch) and directly into your phone line.

Here are some articles on how to get an ISDN Line connection in your home recording studio and also some alternatives you can choose from that are similar to the ISDN service.
