The situation in Kaliga continues to deteriorate–refugee camps like this one are overflowing with millions of people stricken by the ravages of famine and drought. In the countryside and the towns, thousands more find themselves in the middle of the daily skirmishes between rebel groups and government forces. Kaliga is in meltdown and today the government of Kaliga formally asked for U.S. help.

With U.N. aid resources stretched and its peacekeeping intervention largely being seen as ineffective, international pressure on U.S. intervention has been piling on as well.
