The following video demonstrates the proper use of the new FEM 12 SC fire extinguishing liquid agent. This agent has been approved for use as a class D agent by the FAA and passed testing by the US Air Force for fire suppression on magnesium fires and aquatic toxicity.
FEM 12 SC demonstrates the ability to extinguish high temperature metal fires, and may be used to extinguish difficult wheel assembly fires. Because it is a liquid, it can extinguish vertical fires - which creates a problem for dry powder agents. Unlike dry powder agents, FEM 12 SC can be used in high winds, rain, sleet, or snow conditions.
The FEM 12 SC liquid agent allows for increased safety distance for the firefighter through the ability of its extinguisher to deliver agent from 30 to 40 feet. As with all extinguishers that are used to fight metal fires, both dry agent, and now liquid agent, the possibility of flaring is always present. But with the new liquid agent, it has been proven that when used on metal fires from the recommended distance of 15 to 40 feet, the possibility of flaring is basically eliminated.
