When I can't get a voice right, I spend hours studying and working until I get it perfect. I did that with my Russian after a lifetime of nothing but British, and I went from horrible to good in the two days it took me. Still a work in progress, but I don't give up when something I want is on the line, like a new voice I want to perfect or a job I want.
My voice is the 'plain' mid western United States accent naturally, giving me an advantage of not having to worry about my base accent getting in the way of any new ones I pick up.
