About Marquice L Williams

Experience

Marquice L. Williams is known for his captivating spoken word poetry, engaging hip hop performances, inviting DJ sets, hosting, and nonstop dedication to creating safe spaces where any individual can tell their truth. When off stage, he works at Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter Inc. as a direct care professional. Being a Creative Teaching Artist registered with the Georgia Council for the Arts, Marquice continues his work with The Deep Center's advanced creative writing program and various Georgia schools and organizations.

As a Savannah native, Marquice's roots in the local arts community dates back to age six when he landed his first role with the Sankofa Theater Company. From here, Williams performed on WSAV a few Saturday mornings alongside Magic Marc as a young magician assistant. In 2005, Marquice stepped out into the world as a spoken word artist by joining the Spitfire Poetry Group’s Junior Company (Spitfire JuCo), and performing on stages across the country. This lead to him opening for acts such as comedians Marcus D. Wiley and Jonathan Slocumb. After the passing of his mentor, Clinton D. Powell, this young artist began his journey as a co-director of The Spitfire Poetry Group. While leading one of Savannah's premier spoken word troupes, he organizes consistent community events and platforms for all ages, and continues an annual weeklong Savannah Spoken Word Festival in honor of National Poetry Month.

Marquice's work in his local literary community has been featured in the Savannah Magazine, alongside other beautiful writers who are making a powerful impact through words. He believes that everything true will survive, and nothing is truer than the art from a poet’s heart. If you must speak, always Spitfire!
