About Joshua McLaughlin

Overview

Hi! I'm Josh(ua) McLaughlin, a final-year Global Media student and freelance media creative based at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.

Currently pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, I cut my teeth as a teenage actor in live theatre, pantomime, workshops and musical theatre (for multi-award winning shows at venues such as the National Opera House) in Ireland, before moving to the UK and beginning to specialise in media production, voice-over work and online broadcast. I have also performed in and guided tours at Ireland's infamous 'Loftus Hall', which led to subsequent appearances in TV specials for TG4 and Virgin Media Three from 2015 to 2016.

Continuing my passion for performance and voice-over alongside my university studies, I currently work as a Digital Media Guru for the University of Sussex (where I regularly host and feature in their social media output) and am currently shortlisted for 'Best On-Screen Talent' at the National Student Television Awards 2020.

With additional media production experience (filming, producing, writing and editing) for a host of international clients, I'm looking forward to seeing where my career goes next!

Testimonials

While Josh was a student he had a great ability to bond groups and create a very inclusive environment. He was thought of very highly by his peers. This trait is one I deem vital in the acting world, as ensemble work is the backbone of theatre.

Josh was dedicated to his roles in each play that he was cast in. Be that, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare (with a professional company) or twentieth century drama, his strength lay in his immersion in his role. His commitment to his fellow actors made him strive for a solid, dramatic delivery that enhanced the entire production.

Josh completed some LAMDA examinations in solo acting, and while they were not medal exams, I feel sure that had he remained with us, he would have finished out his exams to a very high standard.

Josh also chose to do work experience with me while studying in 2015. He was exposed to all the inner workings of a drama school, so he is embarking on these studies with his eyes wide open.

Josh is truly one in a million. He was always willing to help/volunteer wherever he could and, as mentioned already, a vital cog in the wheel of any production. I was very sorry to see Josh, and his family, move back to the UK, as his rising star was one I had hoped to watch.

I highly recommend Josh McLaughlin. - Olga Conway, H. Dip, Dip (Hons), PGCA, LIBSD.
