Computer & Software

I am running REAPER, and can and have used Audacity for recording, mixing and mastering. My PC is a brand new iBUYPOWER gaming rig, more than capable of handling a wide array of audio and visual media projects.

Special Equipment

I run my Shure SM7B (which sound amazing, but have notoriously low gain) through a Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator into a Mackie ProFX16v3 16 channel mixer. I also have pop filters and am in the process of soundproofing my studio.

About Jason Stein

Overview

Hi! my name is Jason, but all my friends call me Thor. I have been playing around with my voice my entire life. In fact, it used to get me in to quite a bit of trouble at school! I have a love of bringing characters to life, and making them feel real and tangible. I have done that for years, playing D&D as Dungeon Master, I've acted in live skits and improv for fun, and I have even done audiobook readings and voice acting for small projects of friends. I've had a lot of fun doing this over the years, and I believe I have a real talent for it. This has given me quite a range, voicing young and old, strong and weak, human, alien, or anything in between. One project I was quite proud of, and had a lot of fun doing, was voicing an entire 2 minute commercial (9 individual characters!) for a small software dev business.
My true calling in life is to entertain people. I'm a musician/composer, singer/songwriter, comedian, and I'm even writing a few books in the background. I'm also a huge nerd and gamer, and I can't begin to count the number of times I was playing a game and cringed at the voice acting, thinking to myself, Wow, I could have done that so much better!
The last few years have been very difficult for me. I had fallen on hard times financially and had to sell off all my equipment to stay afloat. In the end, it wasn't enough, and I even ended up homeless, spending almost a year living in my truck. I've had to completely start over, rebuilding my studio from the ground up, and now I'm ready to go! Nothing is gonna hold me back this time!

Service Description

In addition to a wide range of voices, voice overs, narration, announcing, and acting, I am a musician, composer, comedian, and writer. I can do all kinds of music and arrangement, help with writing scripts, dialogue, and whatnot. I use some of the gold standard equipment for the recording industry. I can do quite a bit of post production and revision, which allows me to deliver the most complete product I possibly can.

Education

Honestly, I have no formal training. What I do have is a good ear for music, a wicked sense of humor, and and almost 20 years of lurking in and around the entertainment industry. My home is on stage, and there is no better feeling in the world, than moving people hearts and minds with my creations. Wow, this is starting to sound like a dating profile... How's about dinner and a movie?
