Born to a music-teaching mother and a librarian-turned-Congressman father, the Owens Brothers could be a classical ensemble – each Owens brother plays a stringed instrument and has sung choral music. But … they like to rock. Therefore, there is now OBB – The Owens Brothers Band. OBB made its debut during 2014’s SeegerFest at several venues, including Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park (NY). OBB blends original melodies and rhythms with topical lyrics, hot solos and harmonies to create powerful and memorable pieces. Eldest brother Chris Owens has been performing as well as writing songs since the 1980s. Raised on the piano and cello, Chris plays keyboards and uses recorders for instrumental solos. Chris has performed solo, with his own bands, and with singer-songwriters Judy Gorman, Jon Pinamonti, and Bev Grant as well as the Brooklyn Women’s Chorus, amongst others. In 1984, Chris Owens released his album-length compilation of songs, Anyone’s Revolution, which featured cameo roles for his brothers. Chris Owens resides with his family in Brooklyn, New York.
Chris Owens served as host for a pilot television series, "Inside The Congressional Black Caucus." A few episodes of ICBC aired briefly on a small cable television network in 2005 and 2006.
Owens also served as host for a radio show, "Black Politics with Chris Owens," which aired weekly on Air America Radio from February through December, 2008.
Chris Owens has also been the voice on numerous political "robocalls" for various political candidates between 2004 and 2013. He has also recorded robocalls and short television spots for a non-profit organization, The Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission.
