Letter of Recommendation
DIANE JOHNS, voice talent

Miss Mae Marigold – Mississippi’s Witness to History
Mrs. Margaret Lattimore – Renowned British Psychic

To Whom It May Concern:
In my career – which I’m glad to say includes the tenure of many years in national and large-market television production – I’ve been privileged to work with some of the most able-bodied names in the world. Many of them are recognizable names – names like Ted Koppel, Sam Donaldson, Peter Jennings, Robert Redford, Anthony Perkins, Alan Shepard, and Bob Hope. Others are no less talented, folks who are just as able-bodied, but who chose, for one reason or another, to remain in a less visible role.

I tell you this not to impress you, but to impress upon you—that in my opinion, when it comes to character voices, Diane Johns is one of the most talented people I’ve met—ever. It is my sincerest hope, a hope driven both by friendship and collaborative experience—and frequent astonishment at her innate gift—that you will somehow find a way to look deep into the heart, intent, and talent of Diane Johns and help her find a permanent place in the world of voice performance, particularly that of character roles. She’s a genuine storyteller; I believe she has the chops to go quite far.

I’m the host of a positive-media radio program on the SuperTalk Mississippi radio network. And to be honest, when Diane first approached me about wanting to “work in voiceovers,” I was skeptical. I had, after all, heard this desire on the lips of many over the years. And perhaps rightfully so; from their perspective, I’m sure it held a kind of magical allure and mystique.

But it wasn’t long before that skepticism was vaporized. Diane spoke in the voice of an old woman and within minutes, I knew I wanted to do something – anything – with her on my show. And so, the character of “Miss Mae Marigold” was born. We integrated her into our World Series show as a 100 year-old witness to Babe Ruth’s last home run. Then she returned as the Mississippi inspiration for the Wizard of Oz, then as the woman who welded Santa’s sleigh back together on Christmas Eve and saved Christmas for the whole world. She became a recurring character, Mississippi’s witness to history, all that before inventing a new character with a younger British voice, Mrs. Margaret Lattimore, renowned psychic now living in Mississippi. “Margaret” has been on the show twice now, one time explaining, on Elvis’ birthday, that he was back in the building.

I have no idea what your voice needs might be, but I can tell you this; I’ve hired voice professionals thousands of times, and I’d absolutely have NO problem at all working with Diane again and again. Whatever she lacks in terms of on-air hours and production experience she more than makes up for in natural skill, intuition, diligence and initiative. Candidly, wish I had more work for her right now, but the God’s honest truth is…the WHOLE WORLD needs to hear her, not just northeast Mississippi!

I hope with great passion that you’ll seriously consider working with her soon. Trust me; you’ll be glad you did. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Warmest Regards,
Mike Russell
