I have worked in customer service for the past five or six years, and I constantly get customers commenting on my voice. "Where did you get that voice?" is the most common exclamation. I am a slim and rather short male, and young-looking without a beard. So when my natural deep bass comes out, many people are shocked. One customer who spoke on the phone with me expected a bouncer-like build to meet him in real life; suffice to say he was taken aback when he saw me in the store. During high school I've always been cast as a villain, tragic character, or anti-hero. However, people have also commented that I have 'the voice of God.' The day before I joined this website, a customer paired my voice with James Earl Jones' reading of the Bible. This of course is not the first time I've been compared to Jones; I've also been compared to Barry White's signature baritone - and I don't even sing.
I consider myself an asset in the voice industry because although I can change my voice to different accents or striking styles, I have a naturally deep, soothing, and sometimes authoritative voice. I have made heads turn for six or seven years just by speaking. My friends say that my voice puts them at ease. I know that my type of voice is always needed in the market for voices, and even though I have no formal training I have a penchant for acting. If people on the street find my speech so striking that they constantly comment and turn their heads, I can only imagine what listeners on commercials, movies, and television will think. With my voice, there are numberless possibilities.
