About Jason Cannon
The Animated Teacher with the Elastic Voice!
Able to sing, act, create in a high B...full voice!
As an elementary teacher for the past 14 years, I know how to capture an audience with animated voices, believable and genuine characters, and a vivid imagination - having read countless stories and tales to inspire and ignite the minds of my students.
Under the tutelage of Sunday Muse and having worked in theatre (along with teaching) for 15 years, I am well versed in the tools of the trade and the importance of timelines, schedules and tasks.
Also, as a talented rod puppeteer, using puppets in the classroom and studio, I seek to bring life to fabric and foam too.
As my parents tell their friends at parties, "Jason's been bringing to life the many voices in his head from the age of 3!"
Over 25 years experience working and entertaining children of all ages & abilities (teacher, camp counsellor, children’s librarian, preschool leader, kids party host, sports program coordinator, and father)!
Often considered the teacher who thinks outside the box, whose classroom is 'controlled chaos'...my imagination and my vocal range know no bounds!
Words used to describe me and my voice? Expressive, confident, animated, playful, honest, sincere, quirky, elastic, dark, nerdy, musical...more to come!
I'm currently digesting – and regurgitating - a daily buffet of Dora the Explorer, Cars, Planes, Blue's Clues, The Muppets, Star Wars, Thomas the Tank Engine, Daniel Tiger and Sesame Street voices thanks to my 2 wonderfully animated boys.
I know the value of organization and commitment to a task. A great communicator who will work diligently to meet your needs!
As a teacher, I know the importance of timelines, deadlines, communication and organization...and I will deliver it promptly, effectively and respond to your needs, queries, comments, suggestions and input.Read More
As an elementary teacher for 15 years, Jason continues to hone his gift for character development and cartoon voices on a daily basis, reading to children EVERY day using varied, believable voices (and puppets) to enhance the experience for his students. Having worked as a children's librarian, party host, daycare co-ordinator, arts camp counsellor and, now, a father, Jason is well versed in animating texts, scripts and sides. As a casting director said to him recently, "Where have you been these past 15 years?"
From his improvisational comedy days at university, to his musical experience in Toronto (including lead roles in Seussical, Godspell, Beauty & the Beast, Once Upon a Mattress, Pink Panther, and others), Jason's dramatic and comedic and musical abilities are well embedded in his animated characters.
B.A in English and Theatre from University of Western Ontario
