Coleman produces and anchors newscasts for both the morning and evening drives shows using the Cool Edit Pro editing system. She also manages a dedicated team of staffers within the news department.
As the radio station's first news director, Coleman covered the 2009 Memphis Mayoral Special Election by serving as a guest moderator for one of the local mayoral debates. She also anchored live streaming coverage of the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama on WBBP. In addition, she has covered the 40th Anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the first 2008 Presidential Debate between then Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain, as well as the 2008 National Civil Rights Museum’s Freedom Awards’ Public Forum honoring former Vice-President Al Gore, Diane Nash, and B.B. King.
Coleman has interviewed the likes of United States Congressman Marsha Blackburn, former AM VETS National Commander John Haptner, and Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn. She is also the producer and host of “A Closer Look with Jessica Coleman,” which is a weekly news commentary radio show that airs every Wednesday morning on WBBP. This show is a live broadcast with a target audience of 21 to 41-years-old. Its purpose is to present the top national and global news headlines of the week, offer action steps for maintaining good health, present positive, uplifting stories from around the world, as well as a thorough analysis of international news and how it affects ordinary American citizens. Most importantly, “A Closer Look with Jessica Coleman” is an opportunity for listeners to voice their opinion about what's going on in news and be heard.
Prior to working at WBBP, Coleman worked as a production assistant at the CBS affiliate WREG-TV News Channel 3 in Memphis, TN. As a student at the University of Memphis, she was a staff reporter for the award-winning Daily Helmsman Newspaper and served as an anchor/reporter for The University’s television broadcast, Insight News that airs weekly on the local cable station in Memphis.
Coleman graduated magna cum laude from The University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in Spanish in 2007. She was also valedictorian of the 2003 Munford High School graduating class. In the near future, Coleman plan to receive a master’s in corporate communication while furthering her career as a journalist.
