About Kevin M Cook
Overview
Founder/Host of a podcast no one has ever heard of called The Hospital Pass (sports, comedy - out of Denton, TX in 2014) before working as a sports editor for the Houston Chronicle, during which time I appeared routinely on 97.5 FM (ESPN local affiliate) and 610 AM (was CBS; now Entercom, I think) and began co-hosting The Weekly Brew (starting in Episode 8, which got 28 listens in its first week; episodes now routinely get between 30,000 and 80,000 listens by week 2).
I was a frequent guest on VYPE's Locker Talk Radio show, took over hosting duties and operations for Varsity Wires' VWCast (turning it into the Cy-Fair Sports Report, episodes of which are still very popular in Cypress) and founded a sister show called the Spring-Klein Sports Report. Both are still producing episodes to this day, as is The Weekly Brew, but I left that one because of a falling out, so that doesn't excite me as much.
Someone once told me that the most dangerous place in the world was between me and a microphone. My natural voice (I think) is meh, but my 'radio voice' (I think of it as my teacher voice, since I used to be one and that's what I used it for originally) is pretty versatile and with a lot of baritone, so it tends to come through well even when equipment/tech/processes are suboptimal (when appearing on someone else's show, etc)
Experience
Founder/Host/Voiceover/Editing: Cy-Fair Sports Report; Spring-Klein Sports Report
Host/Editing: The Weekly Brew, VWCast
Guest on: too many to number; my fav was probably talking to Matt Jones on Kentucky Sports Radio about De'Aaron Fox (just before his freshman season; I had covered his senior season the year prior). I've also been on every sports-programmed station in town (Houston), I think.
I also am on Niteflirt (I get pretty good reviews), which is technically professional voice experience, I think...
Education
Could not be less relevant -
B.A. English - Creative Writing (with a minor in 'Creative Works,' if you can believe it) - University of Houston Honors College 2013
