Throughout my public school years (encompassing grade school, junior and senior high school), I routinely acted in school plays, both drama and comedies. While in high school, I actively competed as a finalist in public speaking and declamation contests and routinely acted in high school plays and skits. In recognition of my high school acting and speaking ability/accomplishments, I was inducted into the high school national honorary dramatic society at the end of my high school sophmore year.

As a Colgate University undergraduate, I hosted my own one-hour radio disc-jockey program twice weekly for three years on WRCU, the University's radio station. In addition, I prepared and delivered hourly local/national news and editorials as well as conducted interviews with key civic leaders and University students on this radio station.. In recognition of my undergraduate public speaking ability as a fraternity member, I was elected Student Senator for 3 years, thereby contibuting to the growth and development of undergraduate life and living conditions. .

I was a newscaster on radio station WPEB-FM, a non-profit FM radio station in NE USA, for three years. I also hosted a 2-hour disc-jockey program twice a week. In addition, I hosted a one-hour program, twice weekly, that featured classical music. Moreover, I provided weather reports during assigned air time.

I was a Public Information Officer in USDHHS for more than 15 years. Among sundry assignments, which included researching and writing news releases on a variety of public health issues, addressing civic groups on related public health issues in NE USA, I also periodically appeared on both local and regional TV and radio talk shows and sole interviews concerning public health topics/issues that included, although not limited to, chronic and communicable diseases. I supplemented this federal PIO assignment by voluntarily assisting local non-profit organizations (JCs, Rotary, Kiwanis Clubs). In this capacity, I informed and trained respective Club members on local and national public health issues/topics and then coordinated the formation of their Club's public speakers bureau. In this manner, these civic members were able to address the general public on pertinent local health issues through the electronic and print media.

I have been extremely active in Toastmasters International in NE United States for more than 10 years, holding all offices in my local Philadelphia. PA. chapter. I also received numerous Chapter, District, and Area First Place trophies by competing with other Toastmaster Club members in public speaking competitions/contests. It must be noted that my formal Toastmasters in-service training during this ten-year period served to enhance my overall vocal communication skills. This included the improvement of my motivational presentations as well as greater variety in vocal inflection. Perhaps the greatest acquired skill was my shown ability to stay calm, poised, and focused on the task at hand.

My voice has been taped for training purposes by the Employee Relations/Training Office of the Consumer Reports Magazine, Inc. in Yonkers, NY. This 20-minute tape has been used for in-house employee orientations as well as employee training: The narrative tape has also been incorporated into a slide presentation, shown to visitors of Consumer Reports Magazine at the Yonkers, NY home office.

While in college, I realized that the most important work quality one can discover (and continually cherish) is the finding and maintaining a love for the work you are doing. This happened to me, fortunately, when I first talked to a live audience on radio. I have never lost that deep-seated satisfaction as a vocal communicator.
