One of the first highlights of my voice over journey came from the compliments and encouragement of my co-workers when I was a teacher. On many occasions, my colleagues would often compliment me about "my voice" whenever I made (Public Address) PA announcements, during commencement programs and celebrations, etc. The compliments & requests for me to speak continued throughout the remainder of my teaching career.
Another highlight of my journey into the world of voice overs, occurred when I worked as a computer technology coordinator. The school district technology director asked if I would consider creating a telephone voice prompt system for our building. This involved learning how to use and operate the new software and phone system. The project grew and became much more than I expected. In the end, I managed to create the entire system by recording phone prompts for the names of each teacher, department head, administrator, counselor, etc. Parents were able to contact their child's teacher to hear recorded homework assignments, grades, as well as other school activities and events. The district and building administrators, parents, & students were very pleased with the finished product. I received very positive feedback about the voice quality, clarity and user-friendly prompt instructions.
I thoroughly enjoyed the work I was doing even though I did not know anything voice overs or radio broadcasting, etc. After I retired from teaching, I decided to find out more about what I could do with my voice in addition to singing (which I love).
Today, I have arrived at a happy place in my journey. I am continuing to study and learn more about voice over work. I look forward to the opportunity to use my new skills and training as a voice "talent" for business/education training, telephone voice prompts, public service announcement/narration & yes...even singing.
I am very thankful to Voices.com for providing this platform for a "beginner" voice "actor/talent", like me to learn and grow!
