My radio journey...
Rod Poynter grew up listening to Melbourne radio of the 1960's, and was an aspiring announcer by age ten.
After a year with Clarke Sinclair’s ‘Announcers Training Centre’, his career kicked off at 3CS, Colac in 1973; with stops along the way at Warrnambool, Maryborough, Bendigo, 7HO Hobart; 3GL Geelong and 2WL Wollongong. In the 'Gong, he also wrote a weekly current affairs column, ‘Poynter View’, for the Illawarra Mercury.
In 1986, Rod was sidelined for 12 months following a major car accident.
1993 saw a move to Sydney, and stints at 2SM, 2UE, the ‘Sky Network’ and 2GB.
"I've done literally thousands of interviews," he says, citing an encounter with Spike Milligan as a career highlight. "He went right over the top, and actually got quite nasty…though, I wouldn't have missed it !"
Another eccentric was Tiny Tim, "a wonderful guy with an incredible knowledge of 1930's music."
After initial radio training, my skills were primarily developed on the job. Over the years, I have explored most aspects of the electronic media as a performer, particularly within the music and talk radio fields.
I have also worked extensively as a copywriter.

My conversational style as a radio interviewer and MC lends itself to warm, friendly and authoritative reads - everything from 30 second retail commercials, to longer audio/visual and/or documentary presentations.
The intimate, one-to-one communication style unique to radio presenters is also ideal for website narrations, as your message is delivered, essentially, to just one person seated at their computer.
As a professional copywriter, I have penned literally thousands of commercials and, if required, can further hone and sharpen your message.
And when the mood grabs me, I'll also take a swing at whacky character voices, which may be just what you're after for your cartoon or video game project!
