Voice Ability:
Baritone speaking range that works well for scripts and audiences that call for authority, maturity, assurance, and trustworthiness. If you have an important message, I can get it across.
Natural curiosity that works well for topics in science history, arts and humanities, and current events. Your topic is inherently interesting, and I can help generate enthusiasm in your audience.
Sense of humor that works well for funny material or scripts that call for irony, sarcasm, absurdity, or light-hearted delivery. This is my default setting among friends. If humor is part of your message strategy, I can make the most of it.
Background:
20 years as a professional communicator, with emphasis on persuasive writing, audience awareness, and editing for style and tone
Training from Such a Voice in voice control and inflection, studio set-up and equipment, and digital audio editing and formatting
I began training as a voice actor after a 20-year career focused on getting ideas across to specific audiences – as a teacher, writer, and trainer. I’ve studied, practiced, and taught how to use rhetoric, editing, and critical thinking to inform – or persuade – clearly and effectively. In addition to my professional writing, I’m a frequent presenter of well-received webinars and workshops on effective writing and communication. This experience has helped me deepen and enrich my voice, improve my articulation, and adapt my inflection and delivery to many audience types.
My growing confidence as a speaker led me to voiceover coaching through Such a Voice. Experienced coaches like Dave Tolar and Angela Castonguay helped me realize that the disciplines of persuasion, audience awareness, and message analysis I’ve refined as a professional communicator are all essential to voice acting.
