Stephen James (full name Stephen James Smith) is a versatile voice-over actor, coach, director, and producer originally from Birmingham, England, and now based in Biloxi, MS., and in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, where his home studio and studio/office are located.
Born in 1955, Stephen has always had a flair for words and has enjoyed a long career as writer, principally in marketing communications.
During this time, the highlights of his voice-over activities are a 'behind the mic' performance as part of the Talent Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, and a number of apearances on KLVX-TV Channel 10, presenting An Evening of British Comedy. More recent highlights are directing and co-producing the Annual New Orleans Benefit Radio-play of It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas since 2009.
Stephen coaches voice actors and produces demos as well as directing and producing voice productions. He has also coached American actors on speaking "British English" .
Stephen James is a highly-active member of the city's voice-over and acting community. He is founder and president of The NOLA Voice Talent Foundation, a non-profit organization providing voice-over workshops and resources for performers, actors and aspiring voice talent. Stephen he has worked on a number of voice productions, including the annual NOLA benefit 'behind the mic' radio play of the classic movie It's a Wonderful Life for which he is co-producer, director, and voice actor (as Clarence, left), and The GooNOLAs, a radio-play production based on the 1950s British comedy radio-play The Goon Show, for which Stephen is Producer and Director.
In September 2010 Stephen launched The NEW ORLEANS Voice Agency, believed to be the only specialist voice talent agency in the New Orleans region. And, in 2015, Stephen was voted "Louisiana's favorite voice coach" by readers of national industry publication "Backstage".

Stephen has a versatility which enables him to fulfil just about any role required. His training has included training in Standard American English, and the combination of that and his native British accent makes his natural voice perfect for narration and commercial voice-over.
In addition, Stephen has developed several characters and is able to perform many British regional accents, including Irish and Scottish; while he is also able to produce a standard American accent.
Among the characters Stephen has developed are a Beatles-style and Ozzy Osbourne impersonations (Ozzy is from Stephen's native Birmingham, UK) as well as "L'il Me" (a falsetto cartoon-style character) and a range of British characterizations.
