With over six decades of experience casting for both television and film, the late Marion Dougherty is about to be recognized for her lifelong work as a casting director.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has selected Dougherty (d. Dec. 4, 2011),as the recipient of their prestigious Governors Award. An honor given posthumously for a woman in a class of her own, Dougherty created a world where actors were cast for roles based upon their talent, quality, suitability in relation to a role and of course, Dougherty’s handsomely relied upon gut feeling.

Tom Donahue, director and producer of the film, Casting By (2012), was elated to hear of Dougherty receiving the 2014 Governors Award, sharing, “I only wish Marion were alive to see the honor being bestowed on her by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on August 16th. Marion would have been over the moon. Five years ago, this could only have been a dream.”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place on August 16, 2014 at the Nokia Theatre.
