Are you ready for what next year will bring?
I’m excited to share an inspiring and encouraging article with you that acknowledges individuals and reminds us all to be grateful for our blessings and the people in our lives.
Written by a constant source of encouragement and light, Herb Merriweather joins us through this festive article leading us toward 2010.
Resolutions… or Revelations!
By Herb Merriweather
When the New Year rolls around will you find yourself promising to be better, do more, lose weight, make friends, quit smoking, etc.? Or will you look back on your triumphs and set your goals accordingly?
Most of the time when the calendars change we find ourselves looking at what we haven’t done, what we didn’t achieve or the one that got away. And while hindsight can be 20/20–we have to focus on our successes in order to build for the future.
This is not a recommendation to rest on your laurels or be complacent about success.
Diligence is ALWAYS in demand in the voice over world. Rather, this is a call to action to first of all acknowledge the success (however small) that you’ve experienced. Even if you’ve just decided on voice over as a career choice–Hooray! You’ve successfully negotiated a serious turn in the road.
Rather than use our 20/20 ‘Super Vision’ to reflect on past failures and inconsistencies, I would like to start a discussion about what went ‘right’ these past few months–the projects completed, the jobs gotten, the great new relationships that were established.
I saw the entire VO community come together to ‘Read the Bill‘ and kick off construction of a new state-of-the-art recording studio that will bear the name ‘Don LaFontaine‘. Voices.com had a contest and got a new slogan—Rob Sciglimpaglia taught us all how to be careful with our celebrity impressions—Ralph Hass let me do some production work for him—Bob Marini gave us more looks than a chameleon–Nancy Wolfson shared her teleseminars–John Taylor is tall…REALLY tall–Stephanie and Dave Ciccarelli help keep the voice over industry industrious–Bob Souer’s always telling us to ‘Be Well’ (sound advise)–Pat Fraley and Julie Williams do their part by teaching us all they know–Penny Abshire reminds us to think positive!
This page could easily turn into twenty when taking year-end inventory of our blessings and successes.
What positive foundation will you be building YOUR voice over year on? This year…let our ‘revelations’ carry us to victory, peace and even gainful employment!
Let me take this great opportunity to say ‘Thanks’ to those who deserve it, ‘Hello’ to all I haven’t met yet, and ‘Yeeee-Haaaa!’ in celebration of a New Year filled with new hope and opportunity.
God Bless…Happy Voicing!
