This internet video ad depicts somebody going through the motions as they start their day: hitting snooze on their alarm, struggling to climb out of bed, and dragging themselves to the kitchen. However, their Mash-Up blender provides an uplifting experience and a delicious beverage that lifts their mood.

Art Direction:

We’re looking for the voice of a girl or guy next door. This commercial follows a character who is initially grumpy and kind of reluctant to start their day, but as the read progresses, they gain more energy and positivity. By the time you get to the third line, beginning with The Mash-Up, we want your read to exude spirit and cheerfulness. At the same time, this ad is introducing a brand new product and its technical features, so clarity in the script read is favored.

Note: The Narrator in this ad should voice Robin’s lines as well. 

[From above, we see a young adult, Robin, fast asleep in her bed. Her astoundingly loud morning alarm sounds, and Robin immediately slams her hand against her bedside table, hitting snooze. She rolls over, buries her face in her pillow, and groans.]

Narrator: “Your mornings used to look like this.”

[Still half-asleep, Robin drags herself into her kitchen, and starts scouring her fridge and cupboards for something to eat.]

Narrator: “They used to sound like this.”

Robin [to herself, yawning]: “All I’ve got is… this banana, the remnants of a bag of spinach… some seeds… uh, peanut butter…”

[Robin tosses said ingredients into a blender that looks 50 years old. A painful, blaring noise fills the kitchen, until the blender’s blades get caught on some ice cubes, turning into an appalling clicking sound as the blades struggle to crush them up.]

Narrator: “But now that you’ve got the Mash-Up, your mornings sound like this.”

[Robin’s kitchen is suddenly bathed in golden light. The old blender disappears, and the Mash-Up blender appears in its place.]

The Mash-Up’s synthetic voice: “You’re in luck! You’ve got just the right ingredients to make a green monster smoothie. Start by adding a cup of baby spinach…”

[We see Robin grinning and humming to herself as she fills her new blender with precisely measured ingredients.]

Robin: “I’m all set! Now mash-up, please!”

[Close-up of the Mash-Up working its magic. The blender’s contents are instantly reduced to a beautifully-colored mixture. Dance music fills the air.]

Narrator: “The Mash-Up even plays upbeat music while your smoothie is prepared. Get that burst of flavor without needing to seek out new, complicated recipes.”

[Robin is so eager to drink her smoothie that she lifts the Mash-Up to her lips and drinks straight from the blender. She’s overjoyed.]
