A Visit From St. Nicholas

“A Visit From St. Nicholas,” also called “Twas The Night Before Christmas,” is a treasured yuletide poem shared by families around the world on Christmas Eve. Although there have been a few changes to the wording of the poem over the years, for instance, “Just settled down for a long winter’s nap,” instead of “settling our brains…” the spirit of the tale remains the same.

First published anonymously in the Troy, New York Sentinel on December 23, 1823, the story was reprinted frequently thereafter with no name attached. Authorship was later attributed to Clement Clarke Moore (although a debate rages on) and the poem was included in an 1844 anthology of his works.

  1. I’ve enjoyed seeing this rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” I realized today that I’ve read this poem aloud for our family after every Christmas Eve church service and our traditional glasses of eggnog for the last 25 years. I think this year, I’ll let the rest of the family see this video instead. (I have a sneaking feeling, though, that they’ll still want me to read it for them, anyway. They’re a very loyal bunch! lol)Thanks to all the talented VO artists and producers that shared this wonderful poem with the rest of us. And Stephanie, thanks for passing it along! Merry Christmas and Happiest of Holidays to all!

  2. This was great! In lots of ways. Great to see the face behind the voice, to watch great VOs animate (we often hear it, but not so often see it, right) and it still gives me a buzz seeing all the different mics and setups. Should your mic be upside down or right way up> And Why? Thanks to all contributors. Inspired.
(Yeah so it’s a month after Christmas – I still enjoyed it!)
Happy, healthy and fulfilled 2010 X
