Voice Over London Workshop March 2011
Do you want to learn about voice overs and how to get into the business?
What about the kind of work that’s out there and which voicing styles are in demand?
At Voice Over London’s workshop this weekend, I’ll be sharing some insight on these topics and also conducting a practical exercise for aspiring talent to explore reading copy and using their voice in new and exciting ways.

Voice Over London

Not to be confused with London, UK, Voice Over London is a group of Canadian talent based in London, Ontario Canada who are interested in developing their skills as voice artists while meeting new people and developing meaningful relationships with other creative talent in the local community.

The group meets once a month at the University of Western Ontario’s Research Park in The Convergence Centre which also happens to be the home of Voices.com. Talent have come from as far as Toronto to participate and we hope to see more regional membership in the group in addition to our homegrown talent members.

March 5, 2011

This month’s meeting will take place on Saturday March 5th, 2011 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. EST.
The presentation consists of two parts including a lecture followed by an interactive session where people can read copy they brought with them to receive constructive feedback and direction.
Over the course of three hours, participants will hear about:

  • The industry
  • Voice over work
  • Demos needed to promote oneself
  • Styles of voicing
  • Warmups
  • Breaking down copy (rudiments)
  • Creating a character (rudiments)

Voice Over London meetings build on each other and are peer driven regarding the material that is covered. I learned that people are particularly interested in performance and future gatherings will focus more on technique and exploring the capabilities of the voice.
These meetings are usually free to attend and the group has about 12 people who attend consistently. New members are always welcome!
Voice Over London’s Past Presenters Include:
Ross Daily
Lori Holmes of Holmes Well Spoken

  1. I will try to attend but have to work and likely cannot get out of the shift on such short notice. I would love to attend future workshops as I am in the throes of stepping into this career. I have already spoken with Lori Holmes about future vocal lessons and have been reading much on the business and preparing myself for creating my demo. Fingers crossed that I can attend.
