The Tale of Despereaux is a movie about three accidental heroes—one a mouse who is unlike all the other mice, a very unhappy rat who wants to get out of the darkness and into the light, and an awkward servant girl with cauliflower ears. All their fates are entangled with the princess of the castle.

Matthew Broderick

Brings Despereaux the misfit, but gentlemanly, mouse to life with his gentle voice. Broderick’s other voice over work includes, The Lion King, The Lion King 1 ½, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, and the Bee Movie.

Dustin Hoffman

Gives the unhappy rat Roscuro his personality and passion for wanting to get into the light that no other rat would dare to venture out into because of their love of the dark. Hoffman, an actor since the early ‘60s has worked on many voice-over projects including animated TV shows and movies including The Simpsons, A Wish for Wings that Work, Tuesday, Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five, Belonging, and the upcoming Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom.

Emma Watson

Befriends Despereaux, as the voice of Princess Pea, who mistakes him for a mouse when he wants to be known only as a gentleman. Watson is well-known for her role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series; she has done no additional voice-over work for which she credited outside of Despereaux.

Tracy Ullman

Voices the befuddled servant girl, Miggery Sow. Her comedic range added a great quality to Miggery’s personality. Ullman has worked on vocal jobs in animated productions such as The Simpsons, Happily Ever After, The Cat That Looked at a King, Corpse Bride, The Emperor’s New Groove 2: Kronk’s New Groove and Mumbai Calling.

Kevin Kline

Brings life to Andre with his voice talent. Kline has had numerous voice over jobs including Merlin and the Dragons, The Nutcracker, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and The Road to El Dorado.

William H. Macy

Does the voice-over for Lester. Macy is an award winning actor credited with using his voice talent in projects like Batman Beyond, Doogal, Choose Your Own Adventure: The Abominable Snowman, Inland Empire, Curious George and Everyone’s Hero.

Stanley Tucci

Gets right into character by giving Boldo his voice. Tucci has been an actor since the mid ‘80s when he played a soldier in Prizzi’s Honor. He started doing voice over jobs in 2005 when he played Herb Copperbottom in the animated movie hit, Robots, since then he has done voice over work on the movie Space Chimps. Tucci is currently working on a voice over job using his voice talent as Simon in Cat Tale.
