Out of over 140 entries, a winner was selected that best represented our brand, explained what we do and was a perfect fit for the target market on local London, ON radio station,102.3 BOB FM.

Congratulations, Larry Bailey!

Last week, the Voices.com team came together in our board room and listened to ten of the most compelling radio ad creations submitted for the contest. Although many of the commercials were amazing, only one could win…talk about a great problem to have!
After listening and then listening again to spots that made the finals, the commercial scripted, voiced and produced by Larry Bailey was judged to be the winner.

Larry’s Commercial Caught Our Ears Because:

๏ Examples of character voices were given to help people understood what we do
๏ Larry emphasized how easy it is to get started
๏ A clear call to action was executed well at the end inviting listeners to go to www.Voices.com
For those tuning in to BOB FM via radio or online, the ad will be airing thrice on Monday, thrice on Tuesday and twice on both Wednesday and Thursday for a total of ten airings.

  2. I agree with Steve Richmond…SOOO, since Larry did not follow all of the requirements, I think that someone who did should receive the prizes, as well (not to take away what Larry has won, but fair is fair).

    You do have a point that Larry did not say his name as was recommended for how to draft the spot. That beings said, Larry hit all of the other requirements better than anyone else and his commercial was the most voted for among our staff as the best representation of our brand which is why Larry’s entry was selected to be aired on BOB FM. We also plan on sharing the top 10 spots we considered for the win via the blog so that everyone can hear the diversity of entries and gain more insight as to what we were looking for and why Larry’s spot in particular stood out.

  4. This was a creative spot. I must agree with Gregory’s comment about not slating however. Also perhaps next time your directions could be a little more clear. I don’t remember reading anything about you wanting applicants to write a commercial with content directed solely towards Voices.com

    Thank you for your comment and input. The commercial needed to refer to Voices.com and also promote the brand in a positive, exciting way. This was interpreted, by some people, as explaining what it is that Voices.com does so that the average radio listener who may not be familiar with the industry could understand what the purpose of the site is.
    The lack of a slate was unfortunate, I agree, and we are doing our best to give Larry the publicity he deserves and have made good on our promise. The guidelines were there to help shape the parameters of the spot, not to dictate its contents entirely.
    The guidelines as posted were:
    ๏ Introduce yourself! Tell us who you are in the commercial by using your name.
    ๏ Promote Voices.com in a positive and professional manner
    ๏ Commercial must be fully produced and ready to air
    ๏ Audio must be clear and audible to best represent Voices.com’s brand
    ๏ Sound effects and background music are encouraged
    ๏ Commercial must be 30 seconds in length. No more, no less!
    ๏ Submit your commercial as an MP3 file
    ๏ Be creative and have fun!
    I apologize that the directions weren’t clear enough. Where could we have improved? Please be specific with your answer.

    It would have been much clearer to me if bullet point #2 would have been worded ” dedicate the entire thirty second spot to promoting voices.com.” At that point I would have written a commercial accordingly. Perhaps I’m the only one who didn’t ‘get’ what you were asking for. I suppose I’ll find out when I hear the top ten. Cheers !

  8. The very first instruction was to slate. I understand the majority liked his piece, however, one of the most important things an actor MUST ALWAYS DO is to follow direction and instructions. I don’t think it’s an accident that there are so many comments addressing this issue.
    Thanks for the opportunity Stephanie. It was a lot of fun. Maybe this could be a more regular thing at voices.com.

  9. The thing I was impressed by was how much Larry managed to get in, in the 30 secs allowed, without sounding rushed! That for me was the most difficult challenge of the project. Well done, Larry!
    When do we get to hear the other “runner’up” ten????
