This is a monologue by Julius Caesar, after Cleopatra takes credit for the death of Pothinus. Caesar points out to Cleopatra that it is only his clemency toward the popular hero and prisoner of war that had kept the besieging Egyptians at bay, and now they begin to storm the gates of her palace.
