in this module. Let's answer the question. What is a paralegal? We will go further in depth on this. But for now, suffice it to say that a paralegal or legal assistant is someone with extensive legal education but does not have a law degree, and it's not licensed to practice law. In fact, this person can get into trouble for practicing law without a license for giving legal advice. Often times a paralegal can be a linchpin in a law firm or law office because of the many critical task he or she must perform. For instance, in most cases, paralegals are responsible for service of process and court filings. Not knowing understanding and or following the specificity of either of these situations will result in a case being dismissed before it even gets started.
