The place is Lutheran Medical Center on the evening of November 12th 1986. The time is about 6 p.m. These footsteps air so eager because of babies, just babies born into this family in 13 years. It's the first of a new generation filled with promise and hope. These are the first sounds that Baby will here. Who is this baby? Well, it's funny. You should ask, because this baby was a demon from outer. Just kidding. That baby was me. I'm James Scully. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, being bombarded by sounds like these from outside my childhood window on a park bench, four lanes of congested traffic, a bus stop and neighborhood Central Park across the street. There's a lot of bumps, scrapes and scary first social moments in that park. Speaking of scary first moments sometime around 1991 this school, that unavoidable bastion of your experiences for me, PS 2 47 highest 1 87 Xavier High School and finally, Brad Institute, and you believe most of us spend about 17 years in school. Do you remember a time when you couldn't imagine not being in school then all of a sudden one day for me. It was incredibly rainy. Morning in May, someone puts a college degree in our hands and says, eight, Get out there, kid. Make us proud. My degree was in communications. Designed my plan. Work up the ranks of the visual design industry. Perhaps one day soon lead a company. Oh, did I mention I graduated college in 2000 and eight? How's that economy doing? Oh, not so good. Not so good. I see. Well, I can always sleep on the subway, right? Luckily, it didn't come to that. Something happened for me in 1999. By the way, that would shape my future in ways. At the time, there was no way I could realize that Christmas. My grandmother got my grandfather a cassette box of the 60 best old time radio shows as selected by Walter Cronkite. I was there. Well, I was there when my grandfather opened the box and pop one in. Got bomb blast off X minus 5432 Explain this one. Fire in my twenties, as dreams of being a left handed pitcher for the New York Yankees faded as desire to be a professional working visual artist raised through my life, I kept returning to the golden age of radio over and over on the Hollywood It's time now program running a one I want to get away from it Way got tired of finding new to me shows and reading material on that era of radio entertainment. It's a tremendous medium and somewhat for gotten in American history. In 2014 I launched a podcast called Breaking Walls through an art collective I run called The Wall Breakers. The concept was linear and scalable sit down conversations with luminaries centered around helpful topics, all laddering up to a monthly theme. Actually, that story is a really strong one. With me that has followed me basically throughout my entire life is that they don't understand me is exactly like I'm the outsider on. The weird thing about making a decision like that is that in my opinion and from my eyes, you can never look back once you make never stop. Did you get the idea? Is ever stop for the brain? No, I think that that's both a blessing and a curse. I think that people who you don't know people I think, unfortunately, it's the age something really don't know why you have. And then it's too late. And then, through breaking rules, I began to receive new opportunities to cover media events and cultural institutions around New York City movies, including the 19 museums. Someday Mummies. How do you define a money? You know, I think over the next few years you're going to see that Industry City's gonna increase. Industry City is definitely one of those big and also found a documentary outlet for the Golden Age of radio. Bigger, he could make the supporting people that worked with him on the show, the bigger it made the Jack Benny Show on, the bigger it made Jackman. Now this is a leak that I don't think any other comedian ever took out of Jack's book, and I was so sound surprised. Some of the as is often the case in life. What was once old becomes new again. Thanks to the growth and podcasts, audio is once again booming. So where does that lead us? Well, with no over the air restrictions, we could in theory have a limitless number of successful audio shows on any number of topics, including a reboot of audio drama and transcribed on the man form.
