S Fish and Wildlife Service, the greater sage grouse is declining historic sage grouse. Population estimates were in the millions. Today, in the count is between 200,000 to 500,000. That number is 30% less than in 1985. Sage grouse habitat now covers Onley, 165 million acres in 11 Western states. That's 56% less than historic habitat.
