For 2000 years, the cross has stood as a symbol of Christianity, a symbol of hope. But before Jesus was crucified, the cross was in no way a positive for a hopeful symbol. The cross wasn't unique to Jesus. In fact, it was a common form of Roman execution, where the victim is either tied or nailed to a cross. It left a hang until dead. 71 years before the birth of Christ, Rome crucified some 6000 rebellious slaves who followed the legendary Spartacus. Displaying the executions along the 120 mile road between the cities of Capitola and roam across was a statement of Roman power and a symbol of fear to all who would oppose her. The cross was humiliation. Cross was pain. Cross smooth, church way. Don't see it that way. So what happened? How is it that we now can look at the cross and see good instead of evil?
