It was a cold March morning in 2000 and nine when I had decided I had enough of being treated mean by the Miller. I was always so afraid of her, and when she came to my cage that morning, I just knew she was going to hurt me again, just like she had so many times before. She was a very cruel, nasty woman. And she hated Lee despite me, having given birth to close to 80 beautiful little puppies, that she sold to the pet stores for lots of money. I was a good money maker for her, but she was never nice to me, and so out of fear I would bite her before she could begin to hurt me. This time, when she came to my cage and reached for me, I bit her as hard as I could. I knew this was not a good thing to do, but I could not take any more abuse from this horrible woman. Oh, she was just so mad at me for biting her. She screamed at me and told me she was going to kill me. She grabbed me by the back of my neck and was shaking and screaming at me. I had never been more afraid than I waas at that very moment. She pulled a gun out of her belt and she was heading me with it and she was telling me she was going to shoot me. This was how my miserable life was going to end in terror, pain and fear. I knew death had to be better than the **** I was living through every day of my life.
