he called me one day shortly after our last official interviewer interrogation as he called them to come over and here. One more story. He wanted me to keep visiting him, but I was to start talking about myself from that port forward. He was all talked out when he called me and told me there was one more story that he hadn't told me because he promised my grandmother he would never repeat it. I was interested. It felt like a big story, something he hesitated to tell me for an important reason. And I could only imagine what it might be. A. I imagined it was something like he had another family. He had changed his identity or maybe something scary, like he was the person that committed some unsolved crime or was behind some big mystery. I asked him what it was, but he said he'd tell me about it when I came over. I went to my grandfather's house early in the afternoon and he hugged me as he always did, offered me something to eat or drink than sat down and looked me in the eye and smiled. Now I mentioned I did a bit of prospecting in the mother lode country. Wait. No, Grandpa. You didn't. I wondered what else? He hadn't told me African? I didn't tell you. That's right. Did you forget other things you've done? I asked him. He was really sharp for his age, so I couldn't imagine he would forget anything significant. No, no, I didn't tell you for reasons. Your grandma, she got upset when I told her about this. Said it made her think I was loony. She almost didn't marry me. Made me swear I'd never tell her family. No way. Her pop would let us wit had he heard this tale. Now my interest was piqued. He produced a manila envelope and pulled from it a piece of paper with a figure sketched on it. He held it by the edges and said, Careful as he handed it over. I took it and knew instantly. I was looking at a picture of a Bigfoot. I had no idea why he was showing me this sketch. I thought maybe this was his art. Or maybe he purchased this in the past. Maybe was worth something. I thought I didn't have much time to speculate. Mansa. Sask watch. I met one back in California years ago. I was about 20. I suppose it still didn't quite register. Grant, are you telling me you saw a Bigfoot US Sasquatch yet? I was prospecting up in the mountains, first bail, and he was around. He was smiling high. Thought he was messing with me. I just looked at him with an expression of confusion around. I I asked, Yeah, it was no big deal to me. Not It's time. There was always stores a wild man or Harry engines living in the hills. Since I could remember, most folks crossed the path with him. Maybe it was at a distance, but it were common knowledge that were out there. Really, I said I never believed in big foot, and I'm not sure I do now, but I tend to think that if my granddad says he's seen one than they do indeed exist. But he said he met one spent time around one. Yeah, you go out to the reservations and talk to the engines and out where folks live in the rough and you'll see they l know they're out there. There's no big deal that any of them. Okay, But your grandma grew up in the city stores. A wild men living in the woods was always looked at as lies or craziness. I told her about what I seen and she laughed at me. Then she grew angry. Thought I was making it up to make her look the fool. Then she was worried I was off, you know, in the head. When I started to tell a friend of ours one night she shushed me. She glared at me like she never done before. She didn't believe you. He chuckled. No, said I may as well tell her how I met Santa Claus on my way to the Easter Bunny's house. She swore me never to repeat it ever again. People will think you're a cook, Sam. She told me so. Tell May start from the beginning.
