slavery is a system in which people are bought and sold as property and forced to work, recognised by most every society throughout history, the practice of slavery predates any written records. In 16 19 the African slave ship arrived at Jamestown, Virginia. The first official slave owner in the English colonies was Anthony Johnson, a black man. In 16 62 Virginia passed a law stating the Children of an enslaved mother would inherit her status as a slave.
