part one. Educating, informing, creating, understanding and unfortunate stark realities revealed. The first thing that I would like to establish in starting this book is that people should recognize that there are always alternatives companion animals, our precious living creatures whose very lives have been placed in our care and should be overseen with the greatest ethical and moral guardianship and intent animals who are placed by their owners and shelters have an extraordinarily high probability of being euthanized as a result of their former owner taking this action. This is a very simply stated absolute fact. I cannot stress enough the serious contemplation that should be undertaken by the owner of a family member who I often like to refer to as little furry friends who is now to be removed from the home it is known and the humans it regards as its family. For whatever reason, this is a living and feeling creature, one with memory and really, truly felt emotions who has at one time been brought into your life with an intention by you of becoming a part of your family. Animals most definitely bond with their human counterparts, as everyone knows, and consider themselves a part of the family structure. The animal does not have a concept in reality that goes beyond this initial intention by you to make it a permanent part of your life. Being a professional rescuer, I have seen more than my share of animals callously removed from everything they have ever known or understood, and the ramifications of that action. It is truly a heart wrenching and sorrowful sight to bear witness to. Animals, unlike humans, do not possess the ability to mask or hide their emotions. They do, however, most definitely possessed them, and they are expressed in extremely obvious ways that even a lay person or child can and do recognize. I myself have three small dioxins that share my home with me, just as any individual reading this book right now knows or has observed. Whenever I returned home from having been away, even for the shortest amount of time, I am greeted by extreme jubilation by my little furry friends. It is one of the great pleasures and joys of being an animal owner and having a little furry friend share your life. Animals do not possess a concept of time, in my opinion, and Each occasion in which I returned home is another reason for my little pack to celebrate our deep connection and loving relationship with one another. Tales begin to feverishly wag as small pause press up against my legs and noses nut for a scratch behind the ear or pat on the head. All the while softly. They yep, with great, unbridled excitement at the celebration of my return. There is no doubt that this is an observance of joy on the part of the animal interacting with its family member. It's packed, mate. It's human justice. Animals are capable of experiencing happiness and joy. They're equally capable of experiencing deep felt negative emotions such as sadness, depression, abandonment and fear. For some people, it may be difficult to place oneself in the mindset of their companion animal. But just for a moment I would ask you to imagine with me what the experience might be like on the converse if you were the animal being removed from all you had ever known and loved, and for reasons that you are simply not capable of understanding your life is radically negatively altered. Permanently, incidentally, permanently is a very relative term when it comes to an individual who surrenders their little furry friend toe. A shelter permanently may mean as little as three days at the most before life is needlessly snuffed out. Are you, my dear reader, able to for just a moment, consider what it must be like to be removed from everything you have ever known and loved every reason you have ever had to feel safe and secure in your life and suddenly find yourself removed and abandoned.
