medicine is for the people. For over 150 years, modern medicines have saved and improved the lives of millions of people all over the world, preventing or curing previously incurable diseases. In the 19 sixties, the unique contribution by the research based pharmaceutical industry gained worldwide recognition. When humans first set foot on the moon, they brought along innovative medicine as part of their first aid Self Medication kit. At around the same time, the Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry was founded. H K A. P I is one of the earliest associations in the world formed by R and D based pharma companies. In the 19 seventies, H K A. P I and its members adopted the first edition of the Code of Practise. Now in its 18th edition. The code has been systematically updated in order to be responsive to the expectations and changes in society and the environment in the 19 eighties, recognising the need to further raise standards for ethical promotion and education by the industry, the H K A P I launched the first comprehensive Siri's of training programmes for people and professional development in the 19 seventies, H. K P I and its members adopted the first edition of the Code of Practise, now in its 18th edition. The code has been systematically updated in order to be responsive to the expectation of society. In the 19 nineties, H. K. A. P I worked closely with the Department of Health and Medical Associations as well as the newly established Hospital authority to improve the health care system. During the 2003 SARS crisis, the H K A. P I and the pharmaceutical industry stood side by side with health care professionals to safeguard the stable supply of drugs and ensure adequate provisions off surgical masks, both factors which contributed to the control of the epidemic. Through these years, the association has been working with different bureau and departments of the government, professional associations, academics and patient groups, consistently providing expert views across the entire spectrum of healthcare matters, including health care, system reform, research and development, as well as patient empowerment. Our mission has evolved over the years, but it's still follows the fundamental pharmaceutical industry philosophy that medicine is for the people. The association fully supports the integrated people centric approach to health services, which was adopted by the W Ay chose World Health Assembly today as we celebrate our 50th anniversary with 41 full members, we will press forward with the mission to expedite healthcare solutions to people in Hong Kong and Macau with the highest ethical standards, working with partners in community to enhance the healthcare system on developing Hong Kong and Macau into a centre of scientific research and excellence.
