There are 45.8 million victims of modern slavery in the world today, with 70% of modern slavery flowing through the private sector, the business community is in a unique position to address the problem. The business pledge against modern slavery offers your company a clear and systematic way of contributing to the fight against this global crime. So what is the pledge? The business pledge against modern slavery is a short anti slavery statement, which has been devised by members of the Mekong Club. It is supplemented by actionable steps that can take your company on a journey from understanding the problem to eventually becoming a leader in the field. The process is designed to support companies who are doing the right thing and to encourage others to follow suit. How does it work? Step one. Commit Your company reviews the pledge and signs up Step two Act. Your company identifies categories in which it's taking action in the fight against modern slavery. Step three track. Your company's actions in each category will be tracked by the Mekong Club every year. Your company's individual scores remain confidential. Step for measure. The overall scores are aggregated in a public database to compile the business community's unified impact on modern slavery. Your participation in this pledge will demonstrate your commitment to reduce modern slavery. It will also help you to track your performance against that of your industry and to comply with emerging legislation that encourages companies to be more transparent and proactive. Join other leading companies that are fighting to end one of the most serious human rights violations of our time. Together we can positively impact millions of lives.
