Black Sea Maritime Archaeology project was based aboard some of the most advanced survey vessels in the world, covering thousands of square kilometres in three years. A multi skilled international team set out to explore the history of the Black Sea teams surveying the sea bed in search of the Black Sea's origins thousands of years ago. At the end of the last Ice age, this sea was a freshwater lake. But as the ice caps melted, water levels rose, submerging the lakes, ancient shoreline and with it any coastal trace of early humans.
