researcher, educator and collaborator Harriet Perry is a senior research scientist and professor with the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. In her 50 years of studying marine life, she has been involved in countless projects to enrich the environment along the Gulf of Mexico. Focused on the fields of environmental science and aquatic biology, she has worked on projects like identifying invasive species, testing mercury levels in fish and removing discarded crab traps from local waterways. Harriet has devoted most of her career to invertebrate fisheries and understanding the life cycle of the blue crab in the Mississippi. She's strengthened ties with local businesses and fishermen to share, catch data and manage the blue crab population. Harriet has also meant ord and trained people along the Gulf of Mexico, ranging from fishermen and environmental groups to students and scientists. She has written countless scientific publications, created outreach materials and set up presentations to educate the next generation of environmental stewards. She believes the Gulf of Mexico is an enormously productive aquatic habitat and a treasure everyone needs to protect. Congratulations to Harriet Perry, the second place Gulf Guardian Award winner in the individual category
