welcome to the first episode of 1000 extra words I know it's been promised. Just haven't really sat down to record something. But there's two things I've been thinking about recently, kind of my drive back from Colorado. And in the few days that I've spent back in Milwaukee, the first of which is the type of media that I'm consuming right now, it has a lot to do with serial killers. Honestly, it's a nice change from E se. Nice change, Aziz, though serial killers are a good change from anything. But I did get stuck earlier this summer with, um, fixation on movies and TV shows that we're about other worlds or other realities. I did a full episode on it. I did write an essay on it a couple weeks ago, if you remember, um, but I'm on two serial killers now. I started with, uh, movie called Hannibal, which is the third in The Silence of the Lambs franchise. Um, and it was good got me thinking about the fascination that I have with people and personalities and the types of friends that I keep. Not that I think that any of my friends, their serial killers. Um, I moved from there into the TV show that was recommended to me called mind Hunter. I watched the first season of that this week, and it was very good. Attn Least the first episode is directed by David Fincher. Andi. It breaks away from the classic cop procedural show. Um, it tells multiple stories over many episodes instead of one crime per episode. I'll, uh, s V U C s. I, you know, the shows and the handyman that I'm working for now got me thinking about making a murderer, that Netflix documentary Siri's. That kind of sparked the true crime wave that's been going on for the last few years. And I remember making a murderer. I remember watching that, um and think to myself, I recognize this. It's about a guy in southeastern Wisconsin or somewhere in Wisconsin. I'm not Southeastern Wisconsin, but somewhere in Wisconsin, this guy kills a woman on this property and puts puts her in somewhere in his junk yard. And I remember being very, really young, watching the news in the mornings and seeing the news clips that they used in the Netflix show on live television. When they're going over the trial and when they were covering that. It's really a fascinating thing. Thio. It was the first time in my life that I saw a documentary about something that I had actually experienced on. Damn sure that that is just going to keep happening the older I get. But for me, it was the first time that I saw something that I was like. I lived through this. I know this, but I don't know everything about it. And it was it was cool to see the back story. So I've been thinking about that recently. The other thing I was thinking about this week was calling and talking to old friends. I mentioned it in this week's S a, um, something about picking up with an old friend like no time had passed. Andi. I spent this afternoon calling some friends that I haven't talked to you in a couple weeks on. Just hearing their voices made me feel really good. It's good Thio to call people that you haven't talked to in a while and that feeling of picking up right where you left off, uh, something to be said for that and it's pretty. It's pretty nice. I know. I'm not very good at keeping up with folks. So it was It was good to finally make that make that decision and call somebody. Um, yeah. This is the first episode of 1000 extra words. I don't actually know if it's really 1000 words, but it's it's pretty close, I guess. Um, this is the kind of thing you can expect from it. Hopefully, there'll be a bit more frequent than they have been. Um, but it's just gonna be things that I've been thinking about over the week, maybe a little bit of insight into the essays that I'm writing. Uh, thank you so much for supporting me. Every little bit goes a long way towards keep me on the road and keep me out there writing stories. All right, We'll catch you next week.
