I don't know if I love any holiday. As much as Robert Solomon loves Thanksgiving, really now, on the surface, I mean, he's a regular guy, a personal injury attorney, married. He's got a daughter. His practices in Newark. But he's also a self proclaimed Thanksgiving fanatic. He loves it so much that he decided celebrating Thanksgiving just one time a year was not enough. About 10 years ago, he started what he calls Summers, giving a second version of the holiday celebrated on the first Saturday after the summer solstice every year. Now, at summer's giving, there are no obligatory invites, just a lot of great food and the people who were most important to you over the past year celebrating with you. He even petitioned the National Calendar Day, folks to add summers giving to their list of official holidays. For years, Solomon's summers giving celebrations were just held in his backyard. But this year everything was different. My whole family had Covic, so summers giving went big. Solomon partnered with Holy Redeemer Parishes Food Bank in West New York to donate Thanksgiving style meals to people in need. He collected some donations, but Solomon mostly paid for the 650 meals himself, and they were cooked by the staff of a local restaurant, L. Unico Day Elena in Union City. Juan Penny a, the director of the Food pantry, said that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the summers giving celebration couldn't have come at a better time.
