Job Description

With the advent of affordable high definition consumer electronic home theatre products, consumers are switching to HDMI because in many cases HDMI is the only interface available for viewing protected content.

Content protection may result in interoperability problems.

Quantum Data recently introduced the HT-180 Handshake Tester for HDMI--a handheld device used for identifying[ies] HDCP, EDID and hot plug related interoperability problems in HDMI system installations.

The HT-180 Handshake Tester leverages Quantum Data's HDCP and EDID expertise gained through the development of industry approved test tools for HDCP and EDID compliance.
The HT-180 is equipped with HDMI ports for passive monitoring of the HDMI devices in a system.

Hook up is simple, you connect up three devices--a source, audio video receiver and digital television to the HT-180 HDMI ports.

A java application enables you to record the details about the HDMI system you are testing and to control the testing. You can initiate the test through the application or by [with the press of a button] pressing the test button on the HT-180 itself.

During the test, the HT-180 monitors the HDCP, EDID and hot plug transactions over the I2C bus on both sides of the repeater device. It then analyzes the results and stores the transactions in a log file. The transaction log files can be viewed with the Auxiliary Channel Analyzer on-site or later during post analysis of HDMI system problems.

When the test is complete, the unit's LCD display presents simple reason codes with severity levels to identify suspect behavior of specific HDMI products in the system.

The HT-180 offers ease of use and identifies:

- Suspect devices
- HDCP problems

- EDID problems

- Hot plug problems

The HT-180 just one of the recent quantum leaps by Quantum Data
