Script:

Awkward silence invades. RUPRET floats the room enthralled in the fascinating artwork, sculptures and many artifacts that adorn the apartment. RUPRET comes within arms distance of the chest. MILLIE interjects.

RUPRET
That chest (walking over to admire it) absolutely magnificent.

SUE(awkward)
Well um thanks, I guess.

RUPRET
Has such a unique beauty about it.

MILLIE
Thank you, now can we...

RUPRET
Would you be interested in selling it?

SUE
What?

RUPRET
The box, would you be interested in selling it? See I collect stuff like that and I'm sure I'd get...

RUPRET uncovers the chest. Running his fingers along the surfaces of the side panels and admiring the designs up close. The girls are nervous.

SUE
Oh my god I need a drink.

SUE pushes through the intricately weaved web of deceit and bodies to make her way to the bar. Nervously she pours tossing back two shots.

DIANE
Um RUPRET, I don't mean to interrupt but I'm sure SUE isn't interested in selling her chest.

RUPRET
That right SUE? You don't wanna sell. I'll make you a great offer.

SUE
Tempting, but no thanks.

RUPRET
Alright, even more than tempting. I'll make you an offer you can't refuse.

DIANE
She already has. Now please don't be obnoxious. It's not becoming.

RUPRET
I'm sorry ladies. It's just, when I see something I like, I go for it. And this chest is definitely something I gotta have.

DIANE
Unfortunately it's definitely something that's not for sell.

RUPRET
Well why don't we ask SUE. I mean it is her chest isn't it? She should have the final word.

DIANE
By all means Mr. CADELL, ask away.

RUPRET
Look SUE...

SUE(as she pours from the bottle)
No thanks.

RUPRET
But..

SUE(insistent)
NO THANKS.(she drinks)

RUPRET
Would you hear me out at least?

SUE
My answer is no.

RUPRET
To hearing me out, or my offer?

MILLIE
Listen RUPRET, she said no. And you know what they say, no IS no.

RUPRET(persistent)
Five hundred dollars.

SUE
What?

RUPRET(reaching in his pocket)
I'll give you five hundred dollars right now for that trunk.

DIANE
That's a very generous offer but...

RUPRET
Please -- let SUE tell me. -- I wanna hear it from her. What's it gonna be?

SUE
My answer is still --

RUPRET
-- Six fifty.

MILLIE
RUPRET, you came for the notes not to bid on my furniture. This ain't Sutherbys.

RUPRET
I know but, gem'me a minute, think I got her. (At SUE) Seven.

SUE
Look RUPRET the truth is my parents gave that chest to me. It's been in my home for years. They'd be heartbroken to find out I gave it away for a few pennies, I'm sure you can understand.

RUPRET
Absolutely, two thousand dollars.

SUE laughs.

SUE
Please Mr. CADELL I'm not interested in any of your offers.

RUPRET
Okay consider this, my final offer, if you turn it down, I'll know you don't wanna sell. (Beat) Three thous...

MILLIE gives a long sigh.

MILLIE
Pheeeeew.

RUPRET
Did I say Three? What I meant to say was, five, thousand (beat) yeah five thousand, um, five hundred dollars. You don't have to answer right away, just think about it. Okay?

The three girls look at each other for a moment. SUE answers.

SUE
Why? The chest has no real value.

RUPRET
Maybe not to you, but I can make a lot of money on this piece.

SUE
I really wish I -- No thanks, (beat) have a good evening.

RUPRET
I can't believe you'd let such a beautiful piece of art go to waste like this.

SUE
Waste, you're planning on selling such beauty for a profit. I on the other hand, find necessity in such works of art.

DIANE
We are all works of art. Made to be adorned with passion, fire & desire. Don't you think?

RUPRET
Others will interpret lust, envy & greed.

DIANE
Can you really blame them.

RUPRET
I give up.

RUPRET turns to see SUE downing a bottle frantically.

RUPRET(concerned)
Your friend alright?

MILLIE
She'll be okay.

DIANE
Just got some bad news.

MILLIE
From back home.

DIANE
Typhoon.

RUPRET
Oh.

MILLIE looks in disbelief but follows through anyway.

MILLIE
Yeah um, Typhoon, coming her way. I mean her family's way. You know what I mean.

DIANE
So she's pretty shook up about it.

MILLIE
But she's a big girl I'm sure she'll weather the storm. No pun intended.

RUPRET
Did I catch you at a bad time? If I did, I'd be happy to...

DIANE
As you can see, we have absolutely nothing to hide.

SUE
Maybe we should put on some clothes.

MILLIE
It's a hundred and five outside are you crazy?

DIANE
If you're uncomfortable RUPRET maybe you should go.

RUPRET
No, wait...

MILLIE(inquiring)
Aren't you some kind of cadet in training?

RUPRET
Police Academy.

MILLIE
Regular Barney Fife, Hun.

SUE
Then you should be trained to handle all types of situations, correct?

RUPRET
I am, so um don't get uncomfortable on my account.

MILLIE
We won't.

RUPRET(relieved)
Good. Very good.

MILLIE
I'll get the notes.
