Job Description

A short voiceover required for the film "Philadelphia The Great Experiment," a 14-episode historical documentary being produced by History Making Productions for ABC Television in Philadelphia. The show will broadcast regionally on WPVI-TV on January 8, 2015 at 7:30pm and will be available for free online immediately after at historyofphilly.com.

The voiceover is text of an actual news item from 1737, used in a scene describing the wrongful sentencing of an enslaved man. The article comes from Benjamin Franklin's newspaper, The Pennsylvania Gazette, and Franklin's publicity of the case helped turn public opinion away from slave-holding in Philadelphia.

The voiceover takes place during a scene describing the escape and trial of Sampson, an enslaved man who was captured from West Africa during the slave trade and forced to work for the most powerful landowner in Pennsylvania. It is important to discuss this chapter in Philadelphia's history, because slavery in colonial British America, particularly in the north, often receives little attention in popular history.

Voice should be direct and with a journalistic inflection. Just the facts.
