Job Description

We are looking for a warm, compassionate, adult female voice. Less newsy, more caring, but please, NO saccharine. This is for a video about Perkins that will play at a fundraising dinner and on the Perkins web site. We want to get across the care, emotion and achievement that is Perkins School for the Blind.

“Perkins is a success story. We began helping a handful of students in 1829, educated Helen Keller, and today we directly help over 70,000 people realize their potential every year.

“But our work has just begun.”

“90 percent of visually impaired students attend public schools and many do not receive the services they need.”

“70 percent of US citizens who are blind are unemployed or underemployed.”

“85 percent of children with disabilities in developing countries have no access to education

“The number of blind people in the United States will double in 25 years.”

“In the faces of today’s growing challenges, we have developed Seeing Possibilities, a strategic plan to lead Perkins into the future.”

“Perkins is dedicated to helping each and every student realize his or her potential. To realize this mission, we will build the Perkins’ endowment to support our programs and services. We will ensure that teachers and students have access to the best technology. We will recruit and retain the highest quality staff and pilot a transition program to help graduating students become employed.”

“In order to help more people in the community, we will hire more teachers to work with babies and their families AND students in public schools. We will train more teachers through the Perkins Training Center.”

“We will expand to new countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. We will introduce programs for deafblind children in the Middle East.”

“At Perkins, we have always understood that every child has a right to a full and meaningful life. For over 175 years, this has been our guiding principle in the education of people who are blind or deafblind.

“Today we see possibilities with you.”

“All we see is possibility.”
