Job Description

Hello,

We recently finished shooting a Hampshire College thesis film - entitled "The New Mother", it's a somewhat surreal modern fairy tale/coming-of-age story/psychological drama. The budget of the project was about 20k, it came out beautifully, and we're planning on submitting it to multiple festivals. We're looking for a voice actress to play the part of our protagonist, as the actress who played her will not be able to travel to the Boston area to attend our recording sessions.

The Character: Emily, the lead, teenage girl of 14-16, somewhat naive but with a dark side; often sounds sweet and young, yet has a cruel, sarcastic streak that bubbles up in a few scenes. She's in nearly every scene, so we would need to schedule two 6-8 hour days with you and the recording engineer; however, it's possible it could be shorter depending on how smoothly it goes. As we're in a vast amount of debt for the project already we can't offer extravagant payment, but we will cover food/travel and pay you as much as we can afford for your time.

NOTE: the recording will be done at a sound studio in Amherst, MA, so we would need you to be within a few hours of there. We could do any preliminary meetings (if necessary) in the Boston area. Similarly, if you're in the Boston area or anywhere between there and Western Mass, I would also be more than willing to drive you out there and back if needed, or cover transportation costs if you'd prefer to drive yourself.

If this sounds interesting to you, please respond. I'll respond with a copy of the screenplay and notes on the audition. Also - I'll upload a copy of the screenplay to this site, so if it strikes your fancy, feel free to take a shot at whatever scenes you feel best express the emotional range of the character.

Anyway - thanks a lot for your time and consideration. Hope to hear from you soon!

Alex
