Job Description

This is a near final script. The content will be used to promote several projects for the Professional Karate Association.

Script: ~ 4 minutes

The PKA was established in 1974 as the sanctioning body for professional, full contact karate events. During the next 15 years the PKA produced over $50 million in sports broadcasting programming for ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, USA Network. In the 1990's PKA produced the biggest events in the history of the kickboxing sport for SHOWTIME and pay per view.

Forbes magazine estimates that Americans spend $4 billion annually in the martial arts industry and this figure grows every year. Furthermore, 18 million Americans practice the martial arts regularly. The popularity of the martial arts worldwide has skyrocketed to over 300 million practitioners.

The PKA audience is rather diverse and broad based. Research from VIACOM indicates that 49.6% of all 18-24 year olds in the U.S. and 33.6% of all 18-49's want to see more martial Arts on television. In addition, Teen Research University has found that teens have ranked the Martial Arts as number one on the affinity lifestyle index for the sixth year in a row.

A VIACOM research study shows that the martial arts TV and theatrical audience is underserved. Just look at the recent surge in the popularity of televised ultimate fighting competitions as evidence. America can’t get enough of quality martial arts films that’s why Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; The Karate Kid; Shanghai Noon; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, MIA, Enter the Dragon, television series like Walker Texas Ranger, Kung Fu and film stars Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jackie Chan are so popular with American audiences, grossing over a $1 billion annually.

To exploit this opportunity Wild Hair has partnered with Joe Corley to develop and produce The PKA (Professional Karate Association) Brand. The PKA Brand will consist of a line of products that will include, World Champion Fights, reality television shows, documentary shows, a magazine-style TV show, DRT, DVDs, downloadables and a line of athletic wear.

Wild Hair is proposing a multi-tiered marketing plan that includes short-term, mid-term, and long-term revenue streams. All of the following products will be vertically cross-promoted and used to build the PKA brand and its roster of star talent. Furthermore, promotional pieces like the DVD infomercial will pitch the other products at the point of purchase, in a retail outlet or on the PKA website.

(need ending summation as why JC and WH is the only way to go…)A great starting point is with the 50-hour broadcast library entitled the PKA GREATEST FIGHTS OF ALL TIME—the kickboxing equivalent of ESPN’s SUPERBOUTS OF BOXING series. This library has yet to be commercially exploited.
