Job Description

THE PROJECT
Working on a light adventure game set in New Orleans, 1832. Players unravel a story with overtones of betrayal, murder, and voodoo.

WHAT WE OFFER
Our rate will be $75-$125/hour

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Actors outside of the Seattle must be able to provide studio-quality recordings with the following specs: 24bit, 44.1k wav files, mono

WHAT WE NEED
We need to fill the following voice roles. Please post an audition file using the attached script:

JESSIE BODEEN
Age: 35
Ethnicity: African-American woman with a Creole accent.
Character description: The focus of our game. Jessie is a freed slave who makes a living in New Orleans, circa 1832, as a voodoo queen, spiritual counselor, and fortune teller. She is very strong-willed and fierce, a no-nonsense business woman who does what she has to do without allowing personal sentiment to get in the way. She has fought tenaciously to make a living from society’s lowest rung. She knows how to weave a sweet (or frightening) story for her clients. We follow the story of her dealings, betrayal, and cursing of Delphine Lalaurie.

EDWARD BLACKGATE
Age: Late 20’s, early 30’s
Ethnicity or accent: Mainstream American accent – maybe just a touch of a Southern lilt.
Character description: The storyteller of our game. He collects the stories of people with fascinating lives (or deaths). While he appears young, it seems as if he has been around a very long time. Very thin, rakish and charming. He’s a cross between Johnny Depp’s Edward Scissorhands and a funeral director. His voice should be charming with a devious or dangerous edge.

CLOE
Age: 45 (‘old’ for a hard-living slave)
Ethnicity: African-American woman with a Creole accent.
Character description: A slave/household cook in New Orleans, 1832. She approaches Jessie about cursing the cruel slaveowner that has just purchased Cloe’s niece. Jessie refuses because Cloe cannot afford to pay for such a dangerous curse. Cloe is a in a fairly ‘upscale’ and comfortable position for a slave, being the cook of an important family, so she has a few airs. She speaks to Jessie, the local voodoo queen, more frankly than she would ever speak around ‘her family’.

DELPHINE LALAURIE
Age: Early 30’s
Ethnicity: French-Creole
Character description: A French-Creole socialite in New Orleans, 1832. Delphine is a very beautiful blonde with a high-handed manner. While she is famous for her lavish parties, and can put on very charming and flirtatious airs, she is racist to the extreme and very cruel to her slaves. She and her husband are terrible sadists and her heart is very black indeed. She has demanded that Jessie come to meet with her. She wishes Jessie to curse a rival socialite to get rid of her. The bargain is struck, but Delphine goes back on her word and treat Jessie with contempt.
