Job Description

Hi, all,

We are currently putting feelers out for potential voice actors for our upcoming game Mages Initiation: Reign of the Elements;. Casting may not occur for a while yet, but we wanted to get some auditions coming in early. You can find out more about it at the following link: http://www.himalayastudios.com/games/mages/

An image of the character to-be-cast is also visible at the above website (the large image on the right side of each page, wearing the orange tunic).

The story is set in a distant future, after the Elements struck back at humanity, purging much of humankind from the surface of the planet as a form of 'hard reset'. During this cataclysmic process, the continents shifted and were altered to form new landmasses. All prior historical knowledge and scientific progress was lost. The surviving humans had to start from scratch, once again going through the stone, bronze, and iron ages to rediscover lost technologies and forge new histories. The plot is set several centuries after the apocalyptic event, in what would parallel the Medieval Middle Ages (circa 2,500 AD).

Of the surviving humans, two groups emerged. The first group consists of regular humans with no special abilities. The second group were 'Mages' - magical, spell-casting individuals who had been infused with the essence of the Elements, and appointed by them as the guardians of humanity... to ensure that humans remain on the right track, in order to prevent another 'hard reset' from taking place. As such, the Mages are a bit elitist in their attitudes, believing themselves above regular humans and not getting involved in their petty, lesser affairs and political squabbling.

The story follows a 16-year-old boy named Darc (pronounced 'Dark'), who is studying to be a Mage in a little-known town of Iginor. He must undergo three trials that have been set by his Masters in order to prove himself worthy and be ordained a fully-fledged Mage.

This role calls for versatility, as a range of emotions are required in the script. While Darc always attempts to appear strong throughout, he is obviously sensitive about the fact that the Mages pulled him away from his family at the age of six (10 years ago), never to see them again. A pain he manages to hide well. Darc shows respect to his mentors and elders, jokes with his fellow peers, speaks his mind to authority figures when required, but can also be aloof and naive (he is only 16, after all).

Above all the voice should sound adventurous and youthful, not deep and gravelly. A good reference voice would be something like the character of 'Aladdin' in Disney's Aladdin cartoon (performed by Scott Weinger). Suited to someone below the age of 25, or with a voice that sounds within the 16-23 range.

Voice files would need to be recorded in either MP3 or Ogg Vorbis format in one continuous recording. They do not need to be digitally edited. The files would be delivered by email (or uploaded by FTP). Please do try to record with minimal microphone pops and clicks, though!

Direction for specific lines and retakes will be given in text/email form. Any retakes/pick-ups that are required will fall under the payment for this job.
